HybridDigital™ Purifi Eigentakt™ Amplifier

In the almost 50-year company history, numerous innovative amplifier technologies have already made their debut at NAD - starting with the classic 3020 with its enormous current delivery capacity through to the Class D flagship M2. The NAD M33 is the world's first high-end streaming integrated amplifier that works with the innovative new Purifi Eigentakt™ technology and promptly received the EISA award as the best "smart amplifier 2020/21".

Purifi is a Danish technology company where some of the leading developers in the hi-fi industry are pursuing the goal of identifying and eliminating the last remaining weaknesses in digital amplifier technology. The current status of their work resulted in the Purifi Eigentakt™ amplifier, which NAD is the first company to produce under license.

The Purifi Eigentakt™ technology is impressive in terms of measurement with extremely low intermodulation distortion, a particularly low distortion factor of just 0,005% over the entire frequency response and the entire power bandwidth, and minimal inherent noise.

The realization that a memory effect occurs in the components in the output filter of the amplifier was groundbreaking for the development of Eigentakt™ technology. This phenomenon, called hysteresis, obviously leads to the well-known loss of sound of conventional digital amplifiers. By modifying the output stage and using the clever algorithms of the self-clocking technology, Purifi managed to significantly reduce the hysteresis effects. Another advantage of the Eigentakt™ power amplifiers is that they are absolutely insensitive to changing speaker loads. Their extremely low output impedance also leads to a very high damping factor, which is reflected in absolutely clean and controlled bass reproduction.

BluOS™ high definition music streaming

For NAD, BluOS™ is the most advanced network streaming and multi-room system on the market, because it enables high-resolution audio data to be streamed in several rooms, can be used with numerous other products and, with its unique combination of hardware and software, offers something very special user experience.

In addition, BluOS™ supports the new MQA compression standard, with which even studio master recordings in 24-bit/192 kHz format can be saved in comparatively small data packages. Around 20 well-known music services such as Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz, Amazon HD, Spotify, Amazon Music, Slacker or TuneIn can be played back via BluOS™ as well as locally stored music libraries. In addition, the M33 can be integrated into the systems of numerous smart home providers via BluOS™.

The M33 is optionally operated via the TFT touch panel, with the BluOS available for Android and iOS mobile devices as well as Windows and Mac computers^™app, the remote control that came with the amplifier, or Siri voice control.

Dirac Live^® room correction

It's no secret that the acoustics of the listening room have a huge impact on the playback quality of a hi-fi system. The NAD M33 therefore features the innovative room correction Dirac Live^®, whose basic function is to calibrate an audio system to the room acoustics. However, in addition to adjusting specific frequencies, Dirac uses Live^® advanced algorithms to also analyze the impulse behavior of the audio signals being played. In this way, possible discrepancies between the impulses contained in the original signal and their reproduction are corrected. The amplifier is calibrated using the measuring microphone included in the scope of delivery. After the calibration, the hi-fi system not only sounds more balanced, more natural and more spacious, but also has better speech intelligibility and a deeper and tighter bass. Five different Dirac Live profiles can be saved so that the hi-fi system always sounds optimal despite the different acoustics with open or closed curtains, at different listening positions or with different music genres. The M33's two independent subwoofer outputs are also compatible with Dirac's unique "Bass Management".

MDC – future-proof modular structure

Even if the M33 already comes with BluOS™, HDMI, Bluetooth^® and Dirac Live^® is perfectly equipped for the hi-fi present and future, the amplifier can be expanded with additional functions at a later date. Because the device has two slots for MDC modules on the back - and is therefore ready for use, for example, for the HDMI module MDC HDM-2 and, in due course, for future sound formats or new smart technologies.

Apple AirPlay 2

The M33 can be integrated into an Apple network via AirPlay 2 and then selected directly as a playback device for your music stream via your Mac, iPhone or iPad. And if you have activated Siri voice control on your Apple device, all you have to do is say "Hey Siri, play the latest Paul McCartney album" or "Hey Siri, play NDR 2" and your NAD HiFi system will start playback immediately.

Numerous connections and Bluetooth^®

The M33 has six digital and three analogue inputs, including one for MM/MC phono. HDMI, USB and LAN ports are also available. Two pairs of loudspeakers or one pair can be connected conventionally or via bi-wiring via two loudspeaker outputs. And the two independent subwoofer outputs can be configured exactly to your requirements via a digital crossover. Apple Airplay 2* and the integrated Bluetooth enable wireless streaming from a smartphone or tablet^® aptX™ HD module.

Phono and headphone connections

The M33 features a high-quality phono preamp that can be switched between MM and MC systems and whose quality is in no way inferior to that of separate external phono stages. Precise RIAA equalization, an infrasonic filter that eliminates extremely low interference frequencies and a huge overload margin ensure optimum sound quality.

As a headphone enthusiast, you will love the sound of the discrete headphone amplifier, which thanks to its high voltage and low output impedance can even drive planar-magnetic and high-impedance studio headphones. Wireless headphones can also be connected via the integrated Qualcomm Bluetooth^® Control aptX™ HD module.

Extensive smart home integration

With the help of BluOS™, numerous functions of the amplifier can be operated via Apple Siri voice control and Amazon Alexa.

The M33 fully integrates with many of today's leading smart home systems from companies such as Apple, Crestron, Control4, Lutron, KNX and many others. This means that you can control your BluOS™ multi-room music system along with your lighting, shades, air conditioning and security via a common interface. All smart home connections are certified for reliable operation. The custom-made BluOS™ apps for iOS and Android tablets and smartphones as well as the desktop control for Windows and MacOS are available free of charge and are regularly updated.

High-quality aluminum housing

The housing, made entirely of aluminum, looks extremely elegant on the one hand and is extremely stable and robust at the same time. Torsion-resistant panels with magnetic iso-point feet form an optimal basis for the complex interior structure with its multi-layer circuit boards. The M33 represents a modern, completely redesigned version of the traditional stereo amplifier with forward-looking functions and enormous power reserves.
