Got a call this morning that the pre-ordered Onkyo TX-RZ70 will ship today. I didn't think twice and said I'd rather pick him up. Then I sat in the car and took on the two-hour drive, I really wanted to make sure that the amplifier would arrive before the weekend, I'm on vacation right now. The UMIK-1, which was included free of charge, was also available and so I could take everything with me.
Once home, the rest didn't matter to the chagrin of my family: the Onkyo TX-RZ70 had to be unpacked, connected and tested. Overall, I spent a good 4 hours familiarizing myself with Dirac and optimally setting up the device. Even the first test scenes show what the RZ70 is capable of: Dynamics, power and performance – always there immediately. A clearly audible jump to the already good RZ50, but the little brother doesn't stand a chance in this respect. There is a clear increase in all sound areas.
I'll use the weekend again to test the RZ70 and push it to its limits, then I'll adjust the report a bit and add a few things.

You were always well informed during the pre-order phase. After the device arrived at the warehouse, the A/V receiver was with me within 2 days. The quality is truly second to none. I'm a longtime Onkyo fan and I'm excited to be able to retire my old A/V receiver. Although I only have a 5.1 speaker setup, the RZ70 still bangs properly.

Halle Julia! What a Kawentsmann! You almost end up with a fracture. Joking aside...I got the heavy sow yesterday and was able to work a little with the good piece. I first measured the whole thing with Dirac and the supplied microphone and played around with the settings and sound modes a little at my own discretion. I probably “have to” deal with the subject of Dirac and the external microphone again in the next few days, that’s a topic in itself. You have to get used to a new device. What I really like is the on-screen menu with the information and the step-by-step instructions at the beginning. In contrast to the old Yamaha, the pressure in my Canton Chrono SL loudspeakers immediately increased significantly. I think with the right settings and the right room measurement there is still room for improvement. Unfortunately, there is no built-in FM or DAB+ tuner. Internet radio and the included streaming services can help. I wouldn't have used FM anyway and probably not DAB+ either. Well, I hardly listen to the radio anyway. But for one or the other maybe an important topic? The THX sound modes have been the most fun for me so far. Somehow there is always a little more to come. After about 24 hours of use, I can “only” give positive feedback here.

My pre-ordered RZ70 was finally delivered last week and I was able to work extensively with it, including the microphone and the Dirac calibration. Now all I'm missing is the Bass Control extension from Dirac, which I'll keep busy with when the weather is bad. I already had an Onkyo receiver 10 years ago and was very satisfied and am now happy to hold such a high quality in my hands again and that from Onkyo. It's nice that companies like this still exist. At other companies I sometimes have the feeling that more is being saved and the prices are being rolled.

My first look at any A/V receiver is on the back for the power consumption of the power supply and here Onkyo not only promises a lot, but also delivers. One of the most dynamic and punchy A/V receivers I've had in the last ten years. If you are looking for a good A/V receiver with plenty of power, look no further and look to Onkyo. They have a fatter power supply than the new high-end cars from Denon and at a fraction of the price.
