DALI SUB C-8 D

The DALI SUB C-8 D can be used both as an addition to a hi-fi system and in a home cinema. In both cases, it reproduces low frequencies extremely faithfully and cleanly.

The placement of a subwoofer has a major impact on bass response. We recommend placing the SUB C-8 D in a corner or, if this is not possible, directly against a wall. These locations ensure maximum bass levels and even sound distribution in the room. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the SUB C-8 D is much easier to place compared to larger subwoofer models.

Over the years, our engineers have developed a number of sound principles that are found in every DALI loudspeaker today. The subwoofers also have to meet the requirements for a wide radiation angle, precise timing and the lowest possible losses. Equipped with DALI genes in this way, it ensures impressive film and music playback in small to medium-sized living spaces.

AMPLIFIER

The Class D amplifier used in the DALI SUB C-8 D mobilizes an RMS output power of 170 watts and works extremely linearly. In addition, thanks to a pulse power of 220 watts, it has sufficient reserves to play back music as well as movie soundtracks with an impressive bass foundation.

To ensure a sonorous and reliable operation under all circumstances, the amplifier has a limiter circuit. This compares the amplitude of the input signal with the output signal on the one hand and the voltage provided by the power supply unit with the output level to be expected on the other. If there are any inconsistencies in one of these comparisons, the limiter temporarily reduces the power a little without a noticeable reduction in playback volume.

With its controls for setting the volume level, the cut-off frequency and the phase, the DALI SUB C-8 D can be individually adjusted to operate with most loudspeakers and room acoustics. And thanks to separate LFE and LINE inputs, it can be controlled via almost all amplifiers and receivers.

A modern switching power supply reduces the power consumption in standby mode to just 0,4 watts. In conjunction with the highly efficient digital amplifier, the SUB C-8 D achieves an impressive efficiency of 70% and therefore develops very little heat. Therefore, the subwoofer does not need a heat sink.

woofer

The DALI SUB C-8 D features a 200mm downward-firing woofer. Its cone membrane made of high-quality cellulose is not only particularly stiff, light and agile, it also offers excellent playback characteristics.

The core of the drive is a large ferrite magnet that ensures maximum magnetic flux density in the voice coil gap. Because the goal of our developers was that the SUB C-8 D reproduces both the quiet subtleties of music playback and the high sound pressure of bass impulses or film explosions. Measurements and numerous listening sessions showed that we have obviously come very close to this goal.

The 26,5 mm long voice coil enables very large deflections. It is air-cooled in the interest of an impedance curve that is as uniform as possible. The pole piece is also well ventilated to minimize internal compressions in the drive system. This ensures free membrane movement without any disturbing positive or negative pressure.

The bead follows the DALI philosophy of the lowest possible losses and ensures large and extremely linear deflections. The conspicuously large surround is designed in such a way that it can convert both very quiet signals and strong impulses into undistorted acoustic signals.

Housing

The MDF housing meets the strict DALI specifications in terms of stability and low resonance. With black and white ash, there are two housing designs to choose from, which can be perfectly integrated into most living environments. Four large plastic spikes effectively decouple the housing from the floor. The 30 mm distance between the housing and the floor prevents the formation of disruptive turbulence - and since the chassis and bass reflex opening radiate downwards, the subwoofer not only achieves excellent efficiency, it can also be positioned in the living room without any problems.
