DALI SUB E-9 F

The DALI subwoofer SUB E-9 F is extremely compact with an edge length of only around 30 centimeters and is recommended for expanding numerous stereo and home cinema systems such as e.g. B. DALI's OBERON- and FAZON models.

A deep and powerful bass reproduction is guaranteed by the combination of a 230 mm woofer chassis, a bass reflex system precisely matched to the driver and the 220 watt digital power amplifier integrated in the subwoofer. The membrane of the woofer is made of pure aluminium, which means that the cone is not only extremely torsion-resistant and light, but also gives the subwoofer an extremely elegant hi-tech look. The lavishly dimensioned rubber surround, the heavy magnet system and the massive four-layer voice coil also enable the membrane to move with particularly long strokes - an important prerequisite for vehement air movements, which are still supported by the bass reflex port pointing downwards. After all, the comparatively tiny woofer offers a lower limit frequency of 37 Hertz and a sound pressure level of up to 111 dB.

The built-in digital power amplifier also makes a significant contribution to the high quality of the SUB E-9F. It mobilizes 170 watts of continuous and 220 watts of pulse power and can be optimally adjusted to the prevailing acoustic conditions with the integrated controls for volume and upper crossover frequency (control range 40 to 120 Hertz) as well as a phase reversal switch. The DALI-Sub is controlled either via the LFE output of a home cinema receiver or with a stereo signal.

The DALI SUB E-9 F is available in two different housing versions: You can choose from high-quality foil surfaces in black ash and in white. The front panels have a high-gloss black or white finish and contain hidden magnets that can be used to attach the front covers, which are available as optional accessories. Rounded rubber feet give the subwoofer a secure footing and decouple it acoustically from the ground.

DIGITAL AMPLIFIER

The Class D amplifier integrated in the SUB E-9 F mobilizes an RMS sinus power of 170 watts and was specially designed for this subwoofer with regard to particularly linear and low-distortion playback. It achieves a peak output of 220 watts - an important prerequisite for the most faithful possible implementation of bass impulses contained in film soundtracks and music recordings.

The power required for this is provided by a large-scale switched-mode power supply. This is also responsible for the fact that the subwoofer has an extremely low power consumption of only 0,4 watts in stand-by mode. While much of the power generated by conventional analogue amplifiers is lost in the form of heat, the SUB E-9 F's digital amplifier has an impressive 70% efficiency. Despite their high performance, the power amplifier and switched-mode power supply only generate an absolute minimum of heat loss, which is why the subwoofer does not require any external heat sinks.

DALI SUB E-9 F

To ensure that the SUB E-9 F sounds optimal under all circumstances, we have integrated a limiter in the amplifier section. This works in two ways: It compares the amplitude of the input signal with the potential output signal and the available supply voltage of the power supply with the expected output signal. If one of these comparisons shows a problem, the limiter gently reduces the signal level without any noticeable loss in impulse response.

Since the DALI SUB E-9 F is equipped with controls for the volume level and the cut-off frequency (40 - 120 Hz) as well as a phase reversal switch, it can be perfectly adapted to most front speakers and room acoustics. Both line and LFE cinch connections are available for connection to the preamplifier or receiver

WOOFER

The 230 mm membrane of the SUB E-9 F is made of aluminium. As this material is very stiff yet light at the same time, it offers excellent transient response - not normally expected from a subwoofer in this price range. True to the DALI philosophy of particularly lifelike reproduction, the swing-in and swing-out behavior is also very good, which enables optimal interaction with the front speakers.

Instead of integrating a separate dust cap in the center of the diaphragm, the diaphragm is made of one piece, which makes its oscillating movement more close to that of a piston. The result: Distortions are reduced to an absolute minimum, especially in the lowest frequency ranges that the subwoofer is supposed to reproduce.

DALI SUB E-9 F

The woofer's drive works with a large ferrite magnet, which provides a strong magnetic field within the voice coil area. As a result, the frequency response of the SUB E-9 F reaches down to 35 Hertz, and even in the lowest registers, an extremely detailed reproduction in connection with a high sound pressure level is guaranteed.

In the interest of the lowest possible signal loss, an extremely flexible surround is used, which allows large and linear deflections. The generously dimensioned suspension is designed in such a way that both weak and strong audio streams are converted into acoustic signals without distortion.

CASING

Even after more than 30 years of experience in the field of acoustics and housing development, DALI continues to trust in the excellent acoustic properties of housings made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF). The housing of the SUB E-9 F is optionally available in matt black or matt white. The baffle is also designed in a matching color with a matt surface.

Any risk of flow noise through the down-firing port is reduced by its convex, tapered design. Apart from its shape, the dimensions and the arrangement of the reflex channel have been measured and optimized in extensive tests so that there is no interaction between the housing and the woofer.

DALI SUB E-9 F

The housing stands on four plastic spikes and is thus effectively decoupled from the ground. At the same time, the 30 mm distance between the housing and the floor eliminates possible turbulence caused by the bass reflex opening radiating downwards.

The front cover, which can be retrofitted at an additional cost, is held in place by invisible magnets, so that the subwoofer retains an elegant appearance without any indentations for the usual fastening nipples when it is operated without a cover.
