DALI RUBICON 8 C

The elegant RUBICON 8 C is currently the largest and most sonorous active floorstanding speaker in the DALI range. As part of a wireless DALI EQUI loudspeaker system, it impresses with the highest quality audiophile music reproduction without the need for additional complicated electronic components.

RUBICON C audio systems play at the same or even better quality level than the passive RUBICON series. This is ensured by the combination of the loudspeaker chassis and the housing construction of the original series, the digital amplifier technology from the CALLISTO C series and the wireless audio transmission of the DALI SOUND HUB.

With its three 165 mm bass-midrange drivers, each of which reproduces different frequency ranges, the RUBICON 8 C produces an extremely deep bass with an impressive sound pressure level. What is particularly surprising is how playfully easy the RUBICON 8 C converts even the most violent low-frequency impulses.

The floorstanding speaker is available in three housing designs: white high gloss, black high gloss and walnut. The scope of delivery includes rubber feet, which ensure a secure footing and help to ensure that the loudspeaker is shown to its best advantage both aesthetically and acoustically.

SMC MAGNETIC SYSTEM

The use of SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) in the mid-bass drivers of the RUBICON 8 C brings with it many advantages, the most important of which is the significant reduction in distortion caused by mechanical losses in the magnet drive. SMC's unique ability to combine high magnetic conductivity and very low electrical conductivity allows the use of a really good speaker magnet without the disadvantages of conventional designs.

The "secret" consists of powdered, individually coated magnetic granules that make it possible to form a strong, non-conductive magnet. The conductivity is only about 1/10.000 that of iron. With SMC, a speaker chassis works almost free of hysteresis and thus almost without distortion.

The use of SMC brings many advantages, but above all the distortions in the magnetic drive caused by mechanical losses are reduced considerably. SMC's unique ability to combine high magnetic conductivity with very low electrical conductivity enabled us to develop an excellent speaker drive without the disadvantages that we had previously had to accept. The distortions and thus the discolorations in the sound reproduction could be significantly reduced.

AMPLIFIER

The development of a high-quality active speaker system involves many aspects. A really important part is the amplifier, more precisely: the amplifier module.

Instead of using an analogue crossover as in the passive RUBICON 8, the individual chassis of the active RUBICON 8 C are driven directly via a digital sound processor and the two amplifiers integrated in each loudspeaker. In this way, the developers can optimally match the DSP, amplifier and driver to one another and achieve particularly detailed reproduction.

One of the two 165 watt amplifiers is reserved for two of the three 250 mm wood fiber woofers. The combination of a particularly low-loss design, wood fiber cone and SMC pole piece makes it possible for these woofers to have minimal distortion. Together with the particularly musically designed Class D amplifier, an extremely detailed and dynamic reproduction is guaranteed.

The Class D amplifiers are based on the latest patented technologies, are self-oscillating and work with global negative feedback, which is used due to their musical design. In order to adequately reproduce complex music passages or violent explosions in feature films, 250 watts of power are available for pulses of up to five seconds.

SPEAKER CHASSIS

WOOFER
The cone is encased in a soft, low-loss rubber surround, designed from the ground up and custom-made for the RUBICON drivers. The bead guarantees that the membrane can move easily and without loss of energy.

All components are fixed in an aluminum basket that allows maximum air movement around the cone and magnet system. The use of an electrically non-conductive aluminum basket again ensures that the magnetic field around the magnetic drive is not affected.

HYBRID TWEETER
The hybrid tweeter module, which has long since become a DALI trademark, combines a dome tweeter with a ribbon tweeter and thus offers resolution and radiation characteristics superior to all other tweeters.

The extremely soft and light dome membrane is so thin that a coating has to reinforce the material and ensure an even surface. The magnet system was further improved by computer simulation and the saturation flux density in the area of ​​the voice coil was maximized. As a result of this and the use of an extremely low-viscosity magnetic fluid for cooling, the tweeter has a very linear force factor throughout the deflection and thus more controlled movement, higher resilience and lower distortion.

The second part of the hybrid module, the ribbon, is a magnetostatic tweeter. Four bands of conductive material form the active membrane, which is driven by a strong magnetic field surrounding it. Ribbon tweeters have a very wide radiation pattern and in combination with the dome, the module covers the frequency range from 2 to 30 kHz. This extreme bandwidth, together with the wide dispersion, represents an important part of the DALI sound philosophy

CASING

The housing of the RUBICON 8 C offers separate chambers for the bass-midrange and woofers. This allows the housing volume to be optimized precisely for the respective chassis and the frequency range it transmits. In addition, there is an individual bass reflex opening directly behind each woofer, which reduces turbulence to a minimum and optimizes the transit times between the woofer and the reflex opening. Several internal braces also prevent unwanted cabinet resonances and sound coloration
