Recommendation of the month for April: Eric Clapton – Lady in the Balcony

In February 2021, the music world was supposed to be able to enjoy Eric Clapton's guitar skills at the renowned Royal Albert Hall. But as has often been the case in recent years, the pandemic put a stop to the plan and the concert was canceled. In response to his fans' dashed hopes, Clapton decided to make the best of the situation. He retreated to a rural estate in Sussex with his friends and bandmates. The result of this isolation is an exceptionally intimate unplugged concert that will go down in recent history as one of the most touching of its kind.

In this private atmosphere, in front of only one audience member - his wife Melia - Clapton performed some of his timeless classics. Songs like "Bell Bottom Blues", "Tears in Heaven", "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out", "Layla" and "Key to the Highway" were not only played but also captured on video and later published in Dolby Atmos mixed.

This performance stands out for its simplicity and emotional depth. Clapton's interpretations and those of his band are withdrawn and gentler, carried by a slight melancholy. The almost noticeably vibrating guitar strings, the deep and soft sounds of the double bass and Clapton's warm timbre give the concert a special intimacy. The excellent Dolby Atmos mix also helps to capture the atmosphere of the room and enhance the intensity of the melodies. For lovers of good music and fine acoustic details, this recording is a real feast for the ears and definitely our “Recommendation of the Month for April”.
