Philips Screeneo U4 - Ultra Short Throw Projector
Philips presents the Screeneo U4 Ultra Short Throw projector, an extremely compact Full HD model (122 x 81 x 224 mm). The RGGB LED light source ensures a brightness of just 400 lumens, a lifespan of 30.000 hours and 108% coverage of the Rec.709 color space. The brightness is supposed to be identical here to the already available PicoPix Max. The brightness wasn't really convincing either ;) The noise level is 22,6 dB / 24,1 dB / 29,3 dB in night, normal and presentation mode. The 0,25:1 beam ratio optics can project a 60" image from 19,6cm from the wall or an 80" image from 30cm. Features include autofocus, auto keystone correction, and four-angle correction. The projector is HDR10 compatible and accepts 4K/60Hz signals.
While the two HDMI inputs are defined as 2.1, the supported features are not specified. The connections are completed by the mini-jack audio output and the USB-A 5V/1A port for powering HDMI dongles. The latency is 30ms/60Hz, which is significantly less when you think about it. The 2.1×2W 15 sound system is active even when the projector is off, allowing it to be used as a Bluetooth speaker. The module also works when broadcasting to wireless speakers/headphones.
The Philips Screeneo U4 can currently only be purchased on Indiegogo. The announced list price should then be EUR 1199,00; delivery begins in September. In fact, we find Philips' announced new Ultra Short Throw projector pretty uninteresting. With the low brightness, it is only able to conjure up a reasonably "decent" picture in completely darkened rooms. The brightness is also far from suitable for HDR10. Accordingly, Philips only specifies very small projected images of just 60-80 inches.
And finally ... You can get significantly more powerful devices for a little more money. So the U4 from Philips will probably only have a niche existence. Too bad because the really compact design and the idea of the RGGB-LED light source is not wrong.
Laser TV
A laser TV or ultra short throw projector with a laser light source is the type of projector that is positioned just a few inches from the screen and thus projects onto the screen from below. The advantage of this type of projection is the reduced installation effort. The Laser TV can be easily and conveniently placed on a low board. This eliminates the need for long cable routes to the projector, ceiling mounting and the like. In addition, you can achieve a large screen of up to 150 inches in no time at all. In combination with a suitable screen, you can achieve very good picture performance even in bright surroundings, which doesn't have to hide. This guarantees fun with films and series. Thanks to the laser unit, you don't have to worry about the running time either. Do you have any questions about Laser TV or would you like to find out more about possible solutions?
