About “The Emperor”:

World Cup 1990. "Now let's go outside and play football!" says the boss. The boys know what he means. When Franz Beckenbauer started using magic in the 60s, the pill still looked like a medicine ball. There was only one number on the jersey and football was the most glorious game in the world. From the youth days in Munich to the 1990 World Cup victory in Italy, “Der Kaiser” accompanies Franz Beckenbauer’s rise from ace player to legendary coach. Director Tim Trageser tells no pathetic success story. He invites you on a tongue-in-cheek, lovingly furnished journey through time that never loses sight of the human being in the player. Franz causes trouble when something doesn't suit him, and lightning strikes him when he looks the right person in the eye. again. He leaves Germany for a few years. On his return from the "operetta league" in the USA, the current sports studio welcomes him with aerobic dancers in balloon silk. Soccer also takes place on commercial television in 1984 and the media is now everywhere. Franz knows the game. He says "I'm ready". The rest is history. Cream pleated trousers, an aubergine blazer and an imperial walk on gilded green.

The biopic was produced by Bavaria Fiction on behalf of Sky Studios. Developed by Markus Zimmer (“Enfant Terrible”, “Confessions of the Conman Felix Krull”), “Der Kaiser” is produced for the Bavaria Fiction by Stephan Bechtle (“Fathers Alone at Home”, “IK1 – Tourists in Danger”) and for Frank Jastfelder (“Das Boot”, “Der Pass”) is responsible for Sky.
