But Toth, who has been released from prison since April 2023, denies the crime to this day. In May 2006, Charlotte Böhringer, owner of the Isarparkhaus centrally located in downtown Munich, was found dead in her penthouse apartment above the parking garage. Böhringer, a multiple millionaire and well-known member of Munich society, was brutally murdered with 24 blows to the head. The case is causing a stir in the city and across the country. Her nephew and heir Benedikt Toth quickly comes under suspicion. In a unique circumstantial trial in 2008, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with particularly serious guilt, and at the same time his share of the inheritance was declared forfeit.

But the verdict was controversial from the start. It is based solely on a chain of evidence. The murder weapon is not found, there are no witnesses, evidence or even a confession. Although numerous pieces of evidence seem to support the court's ruling, a similar number also question it. The defense applied for a reopening of the proceedings several times on the basis of alternative findings regarding the time and course of the crime and the expansion of the possible circle of suspects - but was unsuccessful. And Benedikt Toth, released from prison in April 2023 and legally convicted of murder, denies the crime to this day.
