Iwájú will stream on Disney+ from April 3rd

“Iwájú” is an upcoming animated miniseries produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios in collaboration with pan-African, UK-based entertainment company Kugali Media and is set to stream on Disney+. The series is inspired by Lagos, Nigeria, recognized as the cultural capital of Nigeria, and features different mainland and island areas that provide an interesting basis for the story. The series aims to provide a broader view of Nigeria, portraying it as a "strange but wonderful city" while exploring themes such as inequality, class divisions and the drive to improve society. It represents the dream of telling the stories of the homeland of its creators and its people and marks a significant collaboration that brings African storytelling to a global platform.

“Iwájú” involves extensive international collaboration, with animation handled at Cinesite's facilities in Montreal and London as well as Disney Animation's Vancouver studio, while pre-production and storyboards are overseen at Disney's Burbank studio. The series' animation style will be a departure from previous Disney productions, drawing inspiration from African, Eastern and Western animation styles while maintaining Disney quality. The series will feature advanced technologies such as augmented reality glasses and spherical flying cars, reflecting the technological advancement of the setting.
